P.U.P. Finalizes Municipals Conventions

Today, the People’s United Party announced that all of its nine municipal slates for the March third elections had been finalized.  The final rounds of conventions for the municipal elections were held in the south over the weekend.  On Saturday, one hundred and twenty-four delegates participated in Punta Gorda’s convention and elected mayoral candidate, Charles Selgado.  Along with Selgado, Mary Palacio, Moses Cal, Arnold Williams, Ulysses Guy, Roberto Virez, and Malcolm Galvez were selected as councilor candidates.  On Sunday, in Dangriga, Robert Mariano was elected as the P.U.P.’s mayoral candidate.  The councilors elected for Mariano’s slate are Gilroy Howard Flores, Martha Robinson, Alfred Petillo, Junior, Liberato Teul, John Edwin Flores, and Jerris Valentine Junior.  Meanwhile, in Corozal, Mayor Rigoberto Vellos and his councilor candidates were endorsed in a virtual convention; we’ll have more on that race shortly. But first, News Five caught up with Prime Minister John Briceño in Corozal Town, where he was on the campaign trail with the candidates.

“I think the thing I enjoy most is campaigning. I love being in the campaign trail, meeting people, talking to them, joking with them and then answering the serious questions that they may have an explaining the them the challenges that are in front of us. It is something that I love. It is something that I enjoy. It is something that energizes me. But I don’t have to do much work because both Elvie and Rigo have been doing a fantastic job. So people were already expecting us and I think that people have already decided they want to continue that work.”

Following this weekend’s conventions, the two major political parties have finalized all their slates to contest the March third Municipal elections. Nomination day is scheduled for Monday, February fifteenth.
