Santander to Harvest 750,000 Metric Tonnes of Sugar Cane in 2021!

In a virtual press conference today, Santander announced that they have had to push back their harvesting for this season. It was scheduled to start some weeks ago, but due to the rains last month, they have only just begun to harvest the sugarcane today. According to the company’s officials, despite the challenges of climate-related events, they are set to harvest three-quarters of a million metric tonnes of sugarcane, which is sixteen percent more than they harvested in 2020. Today, David Rodriguez of Santander updated the press via zoom about what this year’s harvest will look like for the company; they are anticipating increases across the board.

David Rodriguez, C.F.O., Santander

“Our key data for the 2021 harvest is seven hundred and fifty metric tonnes of cane – that is approximately a sixteen percent increase compared to 2020 harvest season. Seventy-five metric tonnes of sugar; thirty percent increase in production – that is basically the conditions in the cane where the sugar content is better in January than at the end of the harvest so this starting earlier  will improve our sugar output for this season. We also expect close to thirty thousand metric tonnes of molasses and we expect to dispatch to the national grid thirty-seven point five million kilowatt hour.”
