Human remains at Rockview

Story Picture
Today police reported that a skull had been found near Gracie Rock village. But as News Five found out this afternoon, it was actually two human skeletons, one of which was actually found last year. No one knows at this point, who they are, how they died, or how the bodies could have lain unnoticed just yards from the Rockview Hospital. The investigation will be made all the more difficult by the fact that the Criminal Investigations Branch was only informed about the find on Thursday night. They dispatched Dr. Mario Estradabran to the scene today. Jacqueline Woods reports.

The remains of a woman and a man were recovered about half a mile off the Rockville Road just a small distance from the Rockview Hospital. The discoveries were made separate occasions by the same man, Linsdale Samuels. Samuels says that late last year he and a friend had gone into the area, when they came upon the first gruesome discovery. Ironically on Monday, February 7th, Samuels was once again in the vicinity cutting trail, when he came upon another troubling scene.

“Well me and my partner were going out to look for some ripe mangoes…right and so we decided to go across the small creek, well he was ahead of me and he came across the skeleton…right and we did not reach the mango tree, we turned back and we reported to the chairman of the village council…right, that we found a skeleton. Well, we left it at that and we left a mark there so that anybody can find the trail and this week, Monday, we were cutting the trail we came across another one, that was Monday, but as I said only remains, the skull, part of the ribs, the bones and you know some pieces of clothes.”

Dr. Mario Estradabran, the Police Chief Pathologist says it is too early to say what may have happened or if the discoveries are related.

Dr. Estradabran, Police Forensic Examiner

“We saw two human remains on a separate distance approximately about five hundred feet away from each other. The first one, the preliminary forensic examination reveals that it is a female, a female adult. The time of the death, or the age of the human remains are years, more than ten years. But more details will come out after the investigation continues.

The second remains, I did not have enough time to check them because it was in a very bushy area so we need to do more investigation on that one. But what I can tell you at this moment is that the second remains were found nearby the Rockview Hospital. So we are not saying that it is one of the patients there, the mental patients there, but we will continue the investigation and find out the real situation.”

While the remains of the man were found fifty yards away from Rockview Hospital, the remains of the woman were discovered about three hundred yards away from the institution. Although clearly it is too early in the investigation to say if the incidents are related, the institution tells News Five that about three to four years ago a patient, Millicent Trapp, went missing. Although, a search was launched, Trapp was never found.

Its not clear at this point why it took so long for the reports of the discovery of the remains to come to the attention of the police.
