2 Persons, including Elderly Woman, Injured in San Ignacio Fire

Joseph Myvett

There were two household fires over the weekend – up north in Carmelita Village and the west in San Ignacio. The fire in San Ignacio started in the early hours of Valentine’s Day at the Carcamo residence. The blaze started inside the home and left an older woman and her son with varying degrees of burns. All other family members who lived in the house escaped unhurt.  Investigators say they are still trying to determine what caused the inferno.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Police were called to the residence of Mercedes Carcamo on 8th Street in San Ignacio who reported to the police that sometime shortly before 2:30 a.m., she was alerted to the popping sound and realised that her house was on fire. The fire apparently started from inside one of the bedrooms occupied by one of her brothers, who at the time was not inside the room, but was inside the bathroom. They were able to get out of the house and during the process, her mom, one Mercedes Cante, sixty-five years received varying degrees of burns along with her other brother, one Kareem Carcamo. They were unable to save any of their belongings; however, we are told that everyone was able to exit the building safely aside from those receiving the burns.”
