Accident in Santa Elena

Joseph Myvett

There was also an accident in Santa Elena in which two persons were injured, but fortunately there was no loss of life.  It involved two vehicles and a motorcycle at an intersection. One vehicle did not give way for incoming traffic, which led to a collision. ACP Joseph Myvett says that the driver of the pickup has taken responsibility for the accident.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Police were called to the scene of an accident on Bishop Martin Street in Santa Elena Town where upon arrival, they met and spoke to Miriam Banos who indicated to police that she was driving on Bishop Martin Street towards Requeña Street and upon reaching that junction, she had the right of way, but she was ran into by a red Toyota four-door [pickup] driven at the time by one Ruben Santos of Seven Miles Village, Cayo District. This accident caused her to lose control and hit one Benjamin Rodas who was riding his motorcycle at the time. Both Miss Banos and Rodas were taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where they were treated and Miss Banos injuries were classified as harm whilst Rodas injuries were classified as wounding. An N.I.P. was served on the driver and he admitted to be at fault and the matter is said that it will be settled through insurance.”
