Phase 2 of Farmers’ Aid Begins
Farmers who have taken a double hit from the 2019 drought and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic are about to get some relief. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise has announced it is starting to release funds, via a voucher system, for phase two of its relief for registered farmers. Eligible farmers for this phase include those who experienced adverse effects from tighter market, droughts and post-harvest management problems from June of 2018 through April 2020. The vouchers and list of eligible items and the compensation value for each farmer will be available from the end of February through June 2021. The Agricultural Subproject is a part of the Contingent Emergency Response Component the Belize Climate Resilient Infrastructure Project. The sixteen-million-Belize-dollar project is financed by the Government of Belize and the World Bank.
