Zhourong Li Admits to Paying for Government Vehicle
Appearing with his legal representative, Zhourong Li was also quizzed about his knowledge of the former Minister of Lands and how he amassed over twenty properties across the country within the span of just a few months. Li also detailed how he got involved in the purchase of the government vehicle sold to Juvencio Herrera. Of note is that Herrera requested and was granted a postponement of his appearance before the commission.
Andrew Marshalleck, Chairman, Commission of Inquiry
“Do you know Mr. Hugo Patt?”
Zhourong Li, Businessman
“No.”
Andrew Marshalleck
“You’ve never met him?”
Zhourong Li
“No.”
Andrew Marshalleck
“And Mr. Juvencio Herrera, do you know him?”
Zhourong Li
“Yes.”
Andrew Marshalleck
“You arranged the payment for the Government of Belize of some monies for Mr. Herrera?”
Zhourong Li
“Yes sir.”
Andrew Marshalleck
“How did that come to be?”
Zhourong Li
“He approached me to extend assistance to him which I agreed and the same time I had some money that was going to be paid back to me. So instead of it going directly to me, then give it to Juvencio, I instructed Mr. Torres and Marine and Services to make the direct payment to the government.”
Andrew Marshalleck
“So you instructed Mr. Torres to make a payment to government and how much did you instruct him to pay to government?”
Zhourong Li
“He owed me fifty [thousand] dollars, so I instructed him to pay the fifty.”
Andrew Marshalleck
“Fifty thousand Belize dollars?”
Zhourong Li
“Yes sir.”
