Curfew Extended for Another 30 Days

If you were hoping that a decrease in COVID-19 cases might mean an end to the ten p.m. to five a.m. curfew, think again.  The Government of Belize has announced it will be extending the curfew for another thirty days and has amended the Statutory Instrument needed to do it.  Additional short term changes have been added for March third out of concern for public health during the Municipal Elections. This means the curfew for March third starts at eight p.m., so there will be no hanging around polling stations to celebrate or hear results. The S.I. also bans the sale of liquor from six p.m. on Municipal Election day, prohibits loitering and gatherings of more than ten people, and soliciting voters near polling stations.  There is one improvement for travelers under the Statutory Amendment: anyone arriving with proof they have been immunized against COVID-19 will no longer have to undergo testing from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.  However, non-Belizeans who do not comply will be denied entry and have to pay for their own repatriation.  They still face quarantine if they cannot leave Belize immediately.
