Nemencio Acosta replaces Juan Coy as Minister of State
In other news from Belmopan, the Governor General has administered the Oath of Allegiance to Nemencio Acosta of the Corozal North Constituency and appointed him as Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Development and Social Transformation at the Belize House in Belmopan City. Acosta takes over the post temporarily from Juan Coy, the Toledo West Representative who was hit with a six month suspension including a substantial reduction in his ministerial salary. Coy is accused of abusing his powers by instructing the B.D.F. to release contraband and prohibited goods including a combined twelve cases of soft drinks, Squirt and Gallo Beer to a smuggler. Coy now joins Marcel Cardona, former Minister of Youth and Sports who was stripped of his cabinet seat recently.
