The Y.M.C.A. Needs Your Help!
Last July, we told you how the Young Men’s Christian Association moved its classes online to serve its population. But the institution, like many other places of learning, is facing tough times. They have had their budget cut and had to make changes to keep their doors open. Doctor Clara Cuellar is hoping that the public can help them with donations so that they can accommodate more students and keep the program running.
Dr. Clara Cuellar, Executive Director, Y.M.C.A.
“We are really down in money. We have cut every facet of our expenses with the assistance of our board. So, you will find that we have a much smaller staff and we only have four people here of which three are retired teachers and myself so we do a lot. We do have the community help in terms of the young people two are on stipend. We are hoping that although we understand the need for government to do budget cuts that we are not cut again because were cut last year and because we are serving. We have been one of the centers, and I believe one of the only ones, we have been open from May. The public can help with technology. We need more UPS and monitors. So tech equipment is something that we can always use if people have a gently used monitor at home they are not using; or if they can give us the cash or purchase it and bring it in; keyboard and mouse can be some of the things we need but please make sure they are working. But our first priorities are UPS and monitors so we can house more children.”
