Breaches in Quarantine Regulations Continue
It’s been some time since we’ve reported on arrests due to breaking curfew and other quarantine regulations. Yet even as the COVID-19 numbers decline, the Belize Police Department and the Ministry of Health and Wellness continue to stress the importance of strict adherence to the COVID-19 regulations. According to ComPol Chester Williams, all across the country, some Belizeans are still acting recklessly.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“We continue to charge people for hosting and attending illegal events, but again, it has a lot to do with the information that the public is giving us. And I would just want to again remind the public that our hotline, 0-800-PARTIES is still in effect. If you see your neighbour having a party; if you see someone having a party or a social event, don’t hesitate to call the hotlines and get the police information so that we can respond. By so doing, you are protecting yourself from contracting the COVID-19 virus. While yes, we have seen that our numbers are down significantly, this is not the time for us to drop our guards and start behaving irresponsibly, because if we do that, then we are just going to see our numbers go up back again and then it would put us right back to where we don’t want to be.”
