Herrera Tells Unions, Clean Up Yoh Own Backyaad First

Delroy Herrera

Herrera is candid in his opinion that teachers and public officers need to do more to assist government in realizing its savings.  The sacrifice, he says, has to be mutual.  The former whistleblower turned tour operator goes on to admonish the unions for failing to play their part in ensuring that public officers who have been accused and found culpable of financial mismanagement be dealt with accordingly.

Delroy Herrera, Independent Activist

“This is not about who sacrificed more, nor is it about punishing the current government for the sins of the previous administration.  We are by no means out of the worst of the pandemic and the sacrifices we all have made unfortunately been extended into the future.  It has to be a continued shared sacrifice until we can come together, until we can rise together as a country again. It has to be a continued shared sacrifice until we rise together again.  How can you compare a ten percent cut in pay and you had years of increments and salary increases to losing a family member to COVID or to catching COVID yourself, or being cut out of the private sector?  A lot of people are back to square one.  I have spoken to people on the street, around the domino table, people are back to square one.  Some tour guides that I know who were renting homes and so forth are back to square one living with their parents and that‘s a fact. To demand the government look into its own fiscal performance is ungrateful to say the least, when the Public Service Commission sticks up for public officers who have mismanaged the public finance; for teachers who have failed to engineer any turnaround in scores for the P.S.E., the C.X.C. and other examinations.  We suggest to you, the layman suggests to you that you get your house in order, as well as the government should because no one is perfect.”
