P.M. Musa attends inauguration of Guatemalan President
Although the inaugural ceremonies were delayed by four hours today in Guatemala City, the new president Alfonso Portillo took the oath of office. News Five’s correspondent Stewart Krohn reports that long discussions in the Guatemalan congress caused the delay, but in his own lengthy speech President Portillo commented that he hoped for strengthened relations between all countries in Central America and Belize. Krohn says in fact, President Portillo singled out Belize’s Prime Minister Said Musa for a special welcome and said he would do everything in his power to resolve the historical dispute between our two countries. It is expected that tonight the President will have a private meeting with Prime Minister Musa. The Prime Minister is accompanied by David Gibson of Foreign Affairs. He was joined by Ambassador to Guatemala Mike Mena and Ambassador to Mexico Salvador Figueroa, himself a former Ambassador to Guatemala. News Five will have a full report on the proceedings on Monday.
