Elvia Vega is Sworn-in as Corozal Bay Area Rep
A new area representative for Corozal Bay took the oath of office in the National Assembly this morning, succeeding her late brother who lost his battle with COVID-19 shortly after unseating former Area Rep Pablo Marin in November 2020. Elvia Vega won decisively over U.D.P. opponent Hilberto Campo during a by-election on March third and this morning during the special sitting of the House of Representatives, she was sworn-in. News Five caught up with Vega following today’s session.
Elvia Vega, Area Representative, Corozal Bay
“So today is a very memorable day for Corozaleños, as you see they are all here today in full support and I will forever be thankful to God for that.”
Paul Lopez
“What does it mean for women, having another woman inside the House of Representatives?”
Elvia Vega
“Oh it means so much because as I always mentioned, it’s not only a man’s world but it’s a woman’s world as well. I am here to work. I am here to represent the people of Corozal Bay, to be the voice that they truly deserve to have. Corozal Bay has been abandoned for the last twelve years and I am here to work.”
