CitCo reminds public of helmet law

It may be like closing the barn door after the horse has already escaped, but the Belize City Council has issued a press release reminding the public that motorcyclists and their passengers by law must wear helmets. Furthermore these helmets must be of a prescribed strength and design and if they do not have a built in visor then goggles must be worn. The release points out that lightweight globe shape helmets, commonly used by bicyclists, are not acceptable for motorcycles. Offenders who do not comply with the law will first be issued a warning and subsequently will be ticketed. Deceased motorcyclist Kevin Coye was not wearing a helmet when he crashed into the back of a truck at high speed on Princess Margaret Drive.
