Dangriga policemen accused of discharging weapons
While banter on local radio talk shows are often times just that, sometimes, call in shows do bring about changes in the community. On January third, Love FM reported to police that several Dangriga listeners had complained that officers fired their service revolvers into the air, for no apparent reason, on the night of December thirty-first in an area known as Back-A-Town. The police internal affairs branch launched an investigation into the matter and on Monday, two police constables were placed on charges for prejudice to good order and discipline. Police Press Officer Christy Castillo says the officers’ names are not being released because they have yet to be interdicted. Dangriga residents tell News Five there is always a strong police presence in the Back-A-Town area because it is known as a hangout for drug dealers and users.
