Kevin Coye still unconscious in Guatemala hospital
At news time tonight, twenty-four year old Kevin Coye is still in critical condition after being involved in a traffic accident on New Year’s Eve. Coye was flown to a hospital in Guatemala City for medical treatment on Saturday afternoon and we are told his condition has improved but that doctors will be monitoring him closely for the next few days. Sources close to the family say Coye has undergone surgery to remove excess fluid on his brain and is still unconscious. The young man had been driving his Honda motorcycle on Princess Margaret Drive just before six on the evening of December thirty-first when he collided with the back of a Zeta water truck. Eyewitnesses say Coye was trying to overtake the truck on the right lane when the driver of the truck changed lanes suddenly. News Five understands that Coye had just finished fixing the bike and was on a test run when the accident occurred. He was not wearing a helmet. Since the first of March of 1999, it has been a law that motorcyclists must wear helmets with protective eye gear. Kevin Coye is the son of Minister of Health, Jose Coye. The entire Coye family is by his bedside in Guatemala City.
