Julius Espat is Hopeful that Impasse will be Resolved Peacefully

Julius Espat

Today in the House, Cayo South Area Representative, who knew that Minister Usher had told Cabinet on Wednesday  he would use his constitutional power to “fix” public officers’ salary, to reflect the wage cuts and increment freeze, Espat said he hoped that the government and the unions could continue to dialogue for the good of the country.

Julius Espat, Area Representative, Cayo South

“In difficult times, unpopular decisions and proposals become necessary.  Absolutely no one, absolutely no one likes or appreciates a reduction to their much deserved remuneration or to their proposed budget.  I am convinced after having deep conversations with our negotiators, Mr. Speaker, that the dialogue will continue with our brothers and sisters from the public service.  We have no choice, Mr. Speaker, because you see we are all, we are all servants of the people and therefore we are a family and yes, at this point in time the family might have their differences but the family has to come together for the benefit of the people of Belize, Mr. Speaker.  And that is a commitment that our party, our government, our prime minister, our negotiators and cabinet in its entirety, is committed to, to make sure that the family comes together so we can serve the people of Belize.”
