Opposition senator guilty of assault
In crimes of a less serious nature Opposition Senator Audrey Matura Tillett was today found guilty of assault in the court of Magistrate Harrison Hewlett. The charges arose out of an incident on April thirteenth when Matura was involved in a dispute with another woman at the Belize Electricity Limited compound on Magazine Road. She was ordered to pay a hundred dollar fine plus five dollars court costs. The Magistrate also had her promise to be on good behavior for six months and suggested that she enroll in a course on temper management. Prior to her entry into politics Matura was a well known broadcast journalist, having been employed at a number of local media houses including the Broadcasting Corporation of Belize, Channel Seven and News Five. She is currently editor of the United Democratic Party newspaper, the Guardian.
