B.E.L. and Telemedia spend millions on telecom lines

Both B.E.L. and Telemedia announced today that the two utility companies are installing a Communication Cable on the one-fifteen KV Transmission Line between the old and new capitals. The fibre cable under installation is the second between Belize City and Belmopan and according to a joint release, “it provides increased resilience between these two important cities at a cost of four million Belize dollars”. The ongoing work is expected to conclude at the end of April and is part of Telemedia’s overall network expansion plans to provide full telecoms services throughout the country. But with this progress, it is expected that there will be scheduled power outages and according to B.E.L., numerous work crews will be visible during the project along the Western Highway.
