Three persons injured in Northern Highway collision

Story PictureThree people were injured in a traffic accident between miles six and seven on the Northern Highway shortly before ten this morning. A Nissan Altima car travelling towards Belize City collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck coming from the opposite direction near a deep curve on the highway. The car was driven by twenty year old Erwin Staine while Carmen Eagar was behind the steering wheel of the pickup truck with her daughter, twenty-two year old Shabebe Eagar in the passenger seat. The occupants of both vehicles had to be taken to the K.H.M.H. for medical attention. The car was badly damaged in the impact but the pick-up truck fared better. News Five spoke with Sergeant Salomon Marin who says speeding may have been the cause of the accident.

Sgt. Solomon Marin, Investigating Officer
“When we arrived at the scene we saw two vehicles—a car and a truck had collided. Initial investigations reveal that about nine-fifty-five thereabout a traffic accident occurred between mile six and seven on the Northern Highway involving the two said mentioned vehicles. What we can see on the scene here, what we observe is that the car was heading towards Belize City and the pickup heading towards the Ladyville area. Upon arrival, all I saw was a male person and a female. The driver of the car, one Erwin Staine received a wound over his right eye, right cheek and he complained of pain on the right elbow.”

Jacqueline Godwin, Channel Seven
“And the two women, who were travelling in the blue pickup, were they injured?”

Sgt. Solomon Marin
“Yes, they were also injured but I did not see any injury on them. But yes they received injuries. If you notice the condition of our highways, we need as drivers to exercise due caution. We must stop and think. When you drive, you drive carefully and drive for the other person because speeding on our highway is not good enough.”
