N.T.U.C.B. Calls for Return to Negotiations
The National Trade Union Congress of Belize has called on the joint unions and the Government of Belize to go back to the negotiation table. But, since G.O.B. has already taken the position that it will fix the salaries of public servants and teachers, we asked Martinez if those discussions, should they resume, would now be focused solely on good governance reform.
Luke Martinez, President, N.T.U.C.B.
“Some people mih ah seh, the man nuh dead til ih stop breath. The Unions are every wise and professional organization. We are sure that the government has the same set of leaders. It is just for the leaders to come back around the table so we could amicably settle the issue of the salary adjustment. We know that the government is saying that good governance is not going to come overnight. Good governance has been on the table since Independence. And, the call for good governance by the labor movement in Belize, in the Caribbean and in other jurisdiction has been nonstop. We know that the government has to do their research. We expect that the research is going to happen, that they employ the qualified individuals who would be able to assist us. But mek wih get the thing done man, ih nuh impossible.”
