Bullets fly on Hummingbird Highway
The ride home to Dangriga turned frightening for three men Wednesday night. Dean Bennett and two friends were on the Hummingbird Highway around seven p.m. As they reached a series of curves between miles thirty-six and thirty-seven, just before the Hershey compound, Bennett says gunshots were fired from the bushes on the passenger side of his vehicle. Bennett kept on driving and immediately reported the incident to the Dangriga police. When he inspected his Toyota Hilux, he found around twenty-five scattered holes in the front passenger door. Luckily, no one was injured. Bennett had been travelling with another vehicle which was about ten minutes ahead of them. According to the driver, when he passed the area where the shots were later fired, he heard someone yell but saw no one. Both drivers do recall seeing a man on a bicycle riding slowly through the area but at this time, it is not known if the man is somehow involved in the incident. Police have verified that a shotgun was the weapon of choice and have recovered pellets but have yet to make any arrests.
