Grigamandala ties with Real Verdes in weekend sports

Story Picture
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and you’re strapped in for another ride on Sports Monday. Grigamandala went into week twelve of the B.F.L. season atop the standings and we all wanted to see if they could maintain the same against the dangerous Real Verdes at the Norman Broaster Stadium Sunday. Of course, Dangriga wouldn’t be Dangriga without the drums beating out loud support but the action is on the field of play.

We’re some six minutes in when a spotkick finds Deon Frazier, who almost opens the scoreboard with a header but misses the target. Dangriga’s first real scoring opportunity comes at the twelfth minute on a press but Nolberto can’t get the pill between the sticks.

On the very next trip downfield Deon Frazier gets a help from the Dangriga defense but fails to score from pointblank range as Stanley Reneau makes the save. Meanwhile, a shot from midfield presents serious problems for Stanley Reneau but he eventually overcomes. It’s more Verdes when Stanley Robinson gets set for goal but he embarrasses himself with a wild shot.

Griga then picks up the pressure. Kakas goes to the left foot but John Brooks makes the stop. For certain folks, Grigamandala would want this one back. The opportunity was right there for the goal. At the half the ballgame remains scoreless.

In second half, Verdes looks to score when Frazier launches a left foot handled by Reneau. A spotkick from Nelson Moss is a beauty but the save by John Brooks is even more spectacular. Dangriga presses from the left side and again it’s another miss from up close. It’s yet another blown chance for Dangriga to score when their header fails to make an impression.

With about two minutes to long whistle a center provides a quality scoring opportunity for Dangriga to win the ballgame, but the shot does leave a lot to be desired. It ends up in a scoreless stalemate.

Checking the other scores from week twelve, San Pedro becomes the new leader after bashing the Bombers at the M.C.C. Grounds in a three-zip blast. Belmopan shook Juventus in a one-zip scorcher out at capital city, Sagitun hurt La Victoria two-one at Corozal and Culture Yabra dealt out half a dozen to Ambergris Turquoise out at the island to post the six-one big “W”.

In cycling news, Mateo Cruz outsprinted Shane Vasquez and Ernest Meighan to win the Honda Hill Classic Sunday. Fred Usher finished fourth and Jose Choto rounds out the top five. In the mountain bike race, also held on this card, Kirk Trapp took top honors, Albert Lemott picked up second and Kenneth Gladden finished third.

In closing folks, Gustavo Torres has finally delivered the big package he has been promising. The Honduran boxing team arrives in Belize on the fifteenth; that’s Wednesday. There will be some six to eight fights Friday night at Cayo. The Honduran National Team is one of the better boxing teams within this region.

That’s it for now. We invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah over all. I’m James Adderley.
