Insurance center holds walk-a-thon for child abuse
If you see a group of people walking up the Northern Highway this Saturday morning, you may want to join in because the walk is for a good cause. The walk-a-thon against child abuse is being sponsored by the Belize Insurance Center Limited, agent for Capital Life, and includes a variety of other organizations and children. Proceeds, along with a collection from the Insurance Center, will go to the National Organization for the Prevention of Child Abuse NOPCA. Marketing Manager for Capital Life Theo Polonio Flores told News Five community outreach is high on the company’s agenda.

“One of the things we realized was that there was a high incidence earlier this year of child abuse. There were a few girls missing. I think we have a serial killer out there and the company decided look, we want to focus on that. So in addition to the other things we were doing, we decided to do a walk-a-thon focusing on the prevention of child abuse, along with NOPCA. And it’s coming to pass.”
Polonio says the Insurance Center hopes other businesses will be inspired to plan similar activities. Saturday’s walk-a-thon begins at six a.m. at Pallotti High School. The group will walk four miles up the Northern Highway, turn around and come back and take Princess Margaret Drive all the way around and end up at the Belize Insurance Center on North Front Street. Representatives from NOPCA, the Brownies, Girl Guides, Rangers, Scouts, Police Cadet Corps, YWCA, BOWAND, Belize Family Life Association and Sadie Vernon High School will join the Belize Insurance Center employees.
