Rotary treats seniors to Christmas dinner
On Sunday over three hundred Belizean senior citizens will enjoy a Christmas lunch, courtesy of the Rotary Club. The S.J.C. Gym will be decked out with Christmas decorations and the mood set with the jingles and bells of Mr. Peter’s Boom and Chime Band. Rotary Club President Yolanda Crombie says the elders will have a day to remember.

“It’s really a fun time when they come through the door and we greet them, try to give them beaded necklaces of bright colors or a Christmas pin and just to say, “Hello, how are you?” And “It’s good to have you as our guest,” and really treat them with respect.
We have for entertainment, Mr. Peter’s Boom and Chime, the Belize Choral Society who will be performing and the Rotarians also sing, dance with them. And we try to provide a gift for them at the end of the afternoon and we have many sponsors in the business who have made that possible.”
Invitations to the party were issued by church parishes, the Salvation Army and the Mercy Clinic. The Rotaract Club will assist with the decorations and serving of the food on Sunday. This is the fifteenth year they have sponsored the event. A joint project by Rotary and Rotaract was the painting of the two roundabouts on the Northern Highway earlier this month. Next year a basic computer course will be made available to persons who cannot afford to pay for such a course elsewhere, or retirees looking to re-enter the workplace.
