Rally Speaker Points to Past Movements; Disavows Roadblocks
One of the guest speakers at today’s union event in Belmopan Kerm Thimbrel recounted meetings he held with former President of the N.T.U.C.B. Marvin Mora back in 2020. Thimbriel says allegations that these rallies are politically motivated are untrue, because of the unions’ tract record. However, he does not support road blockades.
Kerm Thimbrel, Citizen
“In one of the texts he said we are going to put together this rally. It was held in February or March of 2020; I can go back and look at the time. The march was called, “Only the People Can Save the People.” I am saying that today because people are saying this movement, this rally, is a political rally that is geared towards almost be ill will towards the government of the day. I am here to say it is not true at all. Because this was in February. I have all the proof. Only the people can save the people rally that ended up at the Battle Field Park in Belize City. If you look at some of the shirts here, you will see that statement now printed on the shirts of some of these union members.”
Paul Lopez
“You are being very honest by saying you don’t support the road blocks.”
Kerm Thimbrel
“I want people to know that I stand on a platform of fairness. As teachers, as people of this country, you can’t go and fight a cause but be irresponsible in your fight. It is counterproductive. There are a lot of people who are upset about the road blocks. I don’t see how this could gain any public support because it offends people. Now if we talk about yesterday. I was blown away. The creativity of our teachers.”
