Lincoln Erskine Killed in Ladyville

A resident of Ladyville was killed at his home on Monday night, but his body was not discovered by his relatives until Tuesday evening. It is believed Lincoln Erskine lost his life following an altercation with his neighbors.  News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Fifty-eight-year-old Lincoln Erskine was stabbed to death inside this wooden building after bringing to his family’s attention that he was having issues with several persons living nearby.  Those problems, according to his sister, arose from access to his electricity.

“From what I understand, he had an altercation with some people from his neighborhood and it’s because of an ongoing thing with a post that belonged to him and they asked him if they could get electricity and he told them no.”

Erskine’s flat response did not go over well with his neighbors.  In fact, it created a hostility that would not be resolved peacefully.

“He told me that he is having problems with these people.  He told them no and they went behind his back and when he looked, he saw the wire from the post going down to their houses.  He told me of a third party that was doing the same thing to him and he told them, “Take the wire down, I didn’t give you permission to get electricity from me.”  And, you know, he said that he had a misunderstanding with that person.”

It is not clear what happened thereafter.  When Erskine did not visit his siblings on Marage Road in Ladyville on Tuesday, the family grew concerned.

“Normally, he would go early in the morning, up that way and come down back.  He would go at his workplace and would make two, three, four trips for the day, in and out, in and out, because he’s a run-man for them.  Yesterday morning, we didn’t see him and every morning we look out for him because ih like tek ih lee taste too and we always keep check on him to make sure ih okay.  So we neva sih ahn yesterday morning, neva sih ahn yesterday afternoon and yesterday evening we all got concerned, you know, when my niece came and said we need to go and see what’s happening there because we noh sih uncle all day.”

They later decided to form a search party and go looking for him.  That’s when they stumbled upon a very disturbing scene.  Erskine had been dead for several hours, his throat had been slashed and he was reportedly stab in the left side of the chest.

“My nephew was the first one to enter the house and all I heard him say, “Dehn kill di man.”  And that’s when we went in behind him and saw what we saw.  He was there, dead in the chair, sitting down.  Actually they stabbed him because he had a mark there on his head, like they hit him and they slit his throat and they cut him right over the heart, stabbed him right over the heart, you know.  He sat there bleeding, so it looked like they killed him from the night before because the blood was already blackish and dry, dry, dry.  It looks like they killed him the same night after the altercation with the person.”

Ladyville police are investigating the homicide, but so far no arrest has been made. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
