Cops Take Weapons Off the Street
And while police are busy at work trying to put out fires in the gang-ridden communities, cops haven’t stopped their routine work on the streets and their stop and searches have taken weapons off the streets in recent days. Commissioner Chester Williams tells us more about two separate incidents where weapons were confiscated.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“The police were patrolling in the Blue Marlin Drive area when they saw a group of young men who were acting suspicious in a vehicle and that led the police to pursue them and during the pursuit they fired shots at the police and police returned fire and was able to intercept them. Thankfully no one was injured during the process but police were able to recover the firearm that was used. The persons concerned were detained and will be charged by the police for firearm related offences. Last night the police conducted a checkpoint on the Philip Goldson highway and they stopped and searched a red pickup truck. Inside that vehicle were two persons, a male and female; the female was a nurse from Camalote Village and the male is also from that area. The search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two firearms and a number of ammunition. Also found was one hundred and fifty seven grams of cannabis. So, those two individuals I believe have been charged by police and will be going before the court on Monday.”
