And so what’s next for crime? Can police curb the spate of gun violence that has erupted in the city over the last several days? Williams says they have multiple operations in place and are exploring the use of intervention through the behavioral modification center. He notes that the option of a State of Emergency to quell the shootings and killings may also be re-introduced. ComPol Williams says all options remain on the table.

“We cannot always be talking and there must come a time where talking must stop and we must take more drastic measures to ensure that these young men get the message. I know you are going to ask about SOE and I have said before that I personally don’t like the SOE, but sometimes as a measure of last resort it is the only thing that these young men understand that is going to put them in line. At the end of the day we are going to do what needs to be done. I am in direct communication with my minister and we are discussing the matter with every option on the table at this time. So, how we go from here will be dictated by how these young men behave on the streets because we cannot and will not sit and see them continue to do what they are doing and hold the rest of our people hostage. It cannot happen.”
