Taxi Driver Killed in Belmopan: Gives Police Information Before He Dies
A Jamaican was murdered in the City of Belmopan on Saturday night. Taxi driver Nicholas Moody was ambushed by men on motorbikes in the Intelco Hill Area. Before succumbing to his injuries at the Western Regional Hospital, Moody provided a few details that may be helpful to police’s investigation. News Five’s Paul Lopez was in Belmopan today and files the following report.

“The family of twenty-three years old Nicholas Moody believes that he was lured into this area by his killers. Before he succumbed to the injuries he sustained, he was able to identify them as being of Hispanic descent. The family also believes that the motive for his murder is robbery.”

“During that same evening he was with me and my family. He went towards the bus terminal here to pick us up and went back to Atlantic bank to one of the stores there. He officially dropped us off around quarter to five at our family home. He officially dropped us off around quarter to five back at his family home. HE stated he was going to be coming home just after he finished a few runs. Basically, what they are saying right now is that he was lured to the destination. It is something that is still under investigation and we can really speak much about it. But indeed, a robbery was done and I guess because of the way they ambushed him, it was faced on, he already saw the faces so they expected him to speak if he got away.”
In an attempt to escape the ambush, Moody drove his Toyota Corolla into some nearby bushes. The tire tracts and broken tree limbs remains, as a sign of his futile attempt to safeguard his life.

“I got the call around 7:30, there about, that I would need to make my way to the emergency room. He was still alive at that time. He did tell me sitting on that operating room that he was robbed and that he got shot. I tried to ask him if he would have been able to identify to me who were the persons so that I could inform the police so that I could have a better lead. But he was already fading in and out. But he did mention that it was two Hispanic persons who attacked him.”

“There is no reason to believe at this time that this may be connected to any problems that he may have had with anyone?”
Shanice Flowers
“No, no, because up to the week before Nick would always inform you know if something was happening around. But the most issues he was having was with his vehicle. He and his brother were having that in and out. But no problems out there. And as you can see in the media everyone has good words to say about him.”
Moody’s common law wife expects a difficult journey ahead for her and their two-year-old child.

“He was in love with his child that is for one. He had a bond with his child that I can’t describe. So I know for sure that is one of the memories that will be kept with me. We have a lot of pictures as well with him and his child together, so everyone could see. Even the guys at the taxi stand, people that will meet him always talk about his child. It will be a painful journey for both us, but mostly for my child, because right now, he I guess is taking in everything and not seeing his dad around is getting to him now.”
