CXC Council Says Caribbean Students Are Ready

Wayne Wesley

Thousands of students across the region will be sitting the CSEC, yet only five percent have opted to defer to a later date.  And, of the one hundred thousand taking CAPE exams, less than one percent plan to defer.  CXC Registrar Wayne Wesley says these low rates are a clear indication that students across the Caribbean are prepared to sit the exam.

Wayne Wesley, Registrar, CXC

“We have one thousand five hundred and thirty-nine CAPE students registered to write examination electronically. There are seventeen thousand three hundred and forty-three CSEC candidates registered to write the examination electronically. A total of thirty-nine centers from across eleven territories today. If there are other territories wanting to take this option up, it is still available because we facilitate e-testing in a number of our subjects.  In terms of deferral, to date, for CSEC, thirteen thousand, six hundred and fifty-five students have indicated deferral. For CAPE, one thousand and ninety students would have indicated the need to differ.”

“There doesn’t seem to be an appetite in the region among our students for deferral. Of course a small percentage will give you some personal dimensions of elevation. But on the whole there doesn’t seem to be any general appetite for deferrals.”
