Remains of small plane found near P.G.
Police have located the remnants of a small twin engine plane in the Toledo District. They suspect the aircraft was involved in the illegal transshipment of drugs because it was discovered on an abandoned makeshift runway. The main body and tail were extensively burnt, so it is believed the aircraft may have crashed into the savanna about five hundred yards away from Muschamp Creek. Police say they do not know when the incident occurred but based on the condition of the plane they believe it was recent. According to Christy Castillo, the Police Press Officer, police and B.D.F. soldiers were dispatched to the scene on Thursday when the report first came in, but it was not until early this morning that the wreck was located. An abandoned fiberglass skiff without an engine was found near the scene, but no drugs have been located. Police say they have yet to determine the identity of the plane’s occupants or if they are still in the country.
