Eston Young Claims Police Profiling

As you heard earlier, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams along with C.Y.D.P. Director Abdul Nunez and others participated in a mediation exercise with purported gang members in an effort to quell the gun violence of the past three weeks.  Caught up in the group of alleged criminal actors was Eston Young, a resident of Majestic Alley. He says he was simply heading home with a group of persons following the funeral of one of the slain men, when they were all rounded up by police officers and held in detention for forty-eight hours.  Young tells News Five that he was wrongfully profiled as being a member of a gang and was told he would be locked up, under a state of emergency, if the urban violence doesn’t stop.

“The police dehn approach the van weh me and next people weh mi attend the funeral mi deh ina, take we outta di van and say dehn need all ah we dah station. Yes I live through Majestic Alley, I neva ask fi grow up through yah, I never ask fi born through yah. I grow up through Majestic Alley. I neva shoot nobody, I neva do nobody nothing; dehn neva charge me fuh wah weed this, nothing. No criminal activity I participate ina. Sometimes I di walk di street, people from other areas weh have problems with Majestic Alley mess with me, but I have to understand that. I come from through yah. I noh do dehn nothing, but you know ina di streets, man noh want hear yo noh di nothing. Once yo dah from certain areas, you’re a target. I understand that.”
