Belmopan resident arrested for illegal logging
A Belmopan businessman faces charges of illegal logging after he allegedly tried to outrun police in a truck they say was part of a logging operation near the Hector Silva Airstrip. Belmopan reported that around ten p.m. Tuesday night they observed two trucks parked near the airstrip. When officers approached they say forty-one year old Michael Hyde jumped into one of the trucks and sped away. A chase ensued and police caught up with Hyde near Camalote Village. Back at the airstrip, police say they found a chain attached to the remaining truck and when they followed it they located a cedar log on the other end. Hyde has been detained pending charges.
