Rado Says Canceled Bus Runs is All Fake News
Earlier this week, word got around that a number of bus runs issued to operators who were deemed to be supporters of the previous administration had been canceled. Instead, it was alleged, those runs had been given to adherents of the People’s United Party. According to Minister of Transport, Rodwell Ferguson, those claims are fake news. He does admit, however, that there is a moratorium on the issuance of bus runs.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport
“That is totally fabricated. We never contemplated to take away anybody’s license and so I consider it to be fake news. And so, right away when I heard it I asked my [transportation] team to get activated and make sure they make the correction and let the nation know that everything has remained as normal. So I don’t know where the rumors came from.”

“Will that change anytime soon that licenses will be held by other people? Are people applying for licenses?”
Rodwell Ferguson
“What’s happening right now [is that] too many people are applying for bus license and I don’t think we have the amount of commuters. So what the Transport Board is doing, they are going through the entire process and see if they can do some rescheduling but that should not affect anybody who has a bus line right now. So there will be no new operators, unless they come in and apply for a run, but no big operator that I’m hearing about.”

“So there’s a moratorium?”
Rodwell Ferguson
“There’s a moratorium until September when they are going to revamp the entire transportation industry. As a matter of fact, we have a planning unit right now and we hope that within a year or two you can see a different transportation industry in Belize.”
