Queen’s Square Anglican gets basketball court
Today one thousand students from Queen’s Square Anglican School received a gift from their Area Representative Dickie Bradley, a new basketball court. The fifteen thousand, five hundred dollar facility was constructed by prison inmates under the supervision of Queen’s Square contractor Mario Canto. Bowen and Bowen donated the rims and backboards. This morning Minister Bradley, Prime Minister Said Musa, Minister of Education Cordel Hyde as well as a number of other dignitaries helped the school dedicate the court. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony the Minister of Education attempted to make the first basket and the Prime Minister planted a mahogany tree at the entrance to the school.
Carol Babb, Principal
“Well I dialogued with the Minister of Housing the honorable Dickie Bradley, he approached me and asked me if we would like a basketball court? I told him yes. This is something that we have wanted for a long, long time. The children wanted to participate in basketball competitions but we did not have access to a court so it was very difficult. So this multipurpose court will give them the opportunity to better develop their basketball skills and also to participate in basketball competitions and other competitions like tennis.”
Queen’s Square Anglican is also getting a new addition to the school in the form of a building to house a computer lab, library and principal’s office. The Ministry of Education will be helping the school to acquire the computers. The Prime Minister and Minister of Housing toured the Queen’s Square Clinic on Dolphin Street this morning and examined the former Youth Hostel site which may be used for a new high school.
