During this session, the municipal leaders signed off on a sister city document with the intent to share best practices with tax and licensing reform, urban expansion and development among others. News Five spoke today with Mayors Sharon Palacio and Wally Nunez.
Sharon Palacio, Belmopan Mayor
“Today completes our signing with all the municipalities. We stated at our first meeting, and today we completed with the remaining municipalities. And we are looking at the highlights of the different municipalities: culture, sports, environmental awareness, e-governance – you name it, they are all in there.”
Wally Nunez, Mayor, San Pedro
“We have different companies that come and present on better ways to improve the municipalities. So that’s just a hint of what we discussed and apart from that, we have other parts of the agenda that discusses on expansion of municipal boundaries, taxes, how we could collect taxes, how we can better our tax collection. Those are some of the examples of what are discussed at the mayors meeting.”
