Parandero music heads for French festival

Story Picture
Paranderos… Garifuna songs written to be played with guitars and drums are going to Europe. The traditional music has been slowly dying, but now six musicians, including seventy-three year old Paul Nabor of Punta Gorda have recorded an album, “The Paranda Project”. It is dedicated to the lost artists of the past. Today the musicians had a last minute rehearsal at the Bliss Institute before their departure on Wednesday for the Transmusicales du Rennes Festival in France on Friday. Here’s a taste of what they will be treating audiences to in Europe.

Although the performers have not given their group a name, besides Paul Nabor, performers include Andy Palacio, Aurelio Martinez, Adrian Martinez, Joshua Arana, and Owen Nolberto. The Paranda Project album will be released in Belize early next year. It is produced in Belize by Stonetree Records.
