San Ignacio Man Killed for Truck; Was it the Work of Bandits

Wayne Cadle

A family man was shot and killed in the west on Friday night. Police say that they believe he was targeted for his truck which may have been taken across the border. News Five’s Andrea Polanco was in Benque today.

Andrea Polanco, Reporting

49-year-old Wayne Cadle was shot and killed on Riverside Street in Benque Viejo town just after nine on Friday night. Police responded to the scene.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch

“Upon their arrival they saw the apparent lifeless body of forty-nine-year-old Wayne Cadle lying on the ground in his BECOL uniform.”

According to police, Cadle was driving his truck and made a stop on the street and that’s when the robbers attacked. He was shot dead on the spot and his truck was stolen.

“What we know so far is that he arrived at that area and he exited his vehicle and was approached by three Hispanic males one of whom fired a shot in his direction, fatally injuring him. Thereafter those three persons got in his white in color Foton pickup and made good their escape.   We do believe it was the vehicle because he had his other personal belongings on his person when he was found by the police.”

Police say they are looking for two persons of interest. But they also haven’t ruled out the possibility that the bandits may be from Guatemala, with suspicions that the truck could already be across the western border.

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Police is seeking two suspects they believe can assist in the investigation. Yes the vehicle is still missing.”

Reporter

“Is there a possibility that his assailants may be from across the border?”

 ACP Joseph Myvett

“Could have been; that is a part of the investigation. As you are aware there are several other investigations involving the theft of motor vehicles in that area as well as some robberies that were committed in Benque Viejo where we do believe that some of those assailants are from across the border.”

Reporting for News Five, I’m Andrea Polanco.

Cadle resided in San Ignacio and was a father of four children. He was employed with BECOL for the last twenty-five years.
