Customs Nets Illegal Fish
A lawman is himself in trouble with the law for illegally transporting over thirty thousand dollars worth of fish in northern Belize. Police say Coast Guard officer Daniel Ack and Jamie-lee Cruz approached a checkpoint in Buena Vista Village in a SUV. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of three hundred and twenty pounds of bass fillet fish, forty-six pounds of salmon fillet, and three hundred and seventeen pounds of jumbo shrimp. Police says neither Ack nor Cruz was able to provide any documentation for the goods. As a result, police detained them both and handed them – and the seafood – over to customs officials. Ack and Cruz will be charged for having uncustomed goods.
