San Ignacio jeweler shot by robber
For those who tuned in this afternoon to the live radio broadcast of the opening of Eastern Division, there was a glaring reminder that criminals never take the day off. At the start of the broadcast, LOVE FM went live to Belmopan for a report on a shooting at a jewelry store in San Ignacio. Eulogio Cano was at the Belmopan Hospital waiting for his son Oscar Rene Cano to come out of surgery after being shot in the neck by a would-be robber. Eulogio Cano says his son’s workers told him a man entered the shop and demanded that Oscar put some gold jewelry in his bag. When he hesitated, the man pulled a gun and shot him. He then fired shots at two others in the store and fled. Eulogio Cano took the opportunity during the live interview to comment that crimes against the business community appear to be out of control and are now no longer confined to Belize City. LOVE FM then returned to the Queen Street Police Station opening.
