$103K for Street Upgrades in Dangriga

For years, the main street in Dangriga in front of the bus station has been in a deplorable state. Well works have finally begun on one of two streets in that southern municipality following the signing of a contract between the town council and A & N Construction. News Five spoke today with Mayor Robert Mariano about the one hundred and three thousand-dollar contract to pave Havana Street and Aranda Crescent.

On the Phone: Robert Mariano, Dangriga Mayor

“The bus terminal for Dangriga is on Havana Street, it’s the main street. It is the first street you enter when you come off the George Price Drive, which is the Stann Creek Valley Road. And imagine the bus terminal is on this street and when Belizeans travel to Dangriga or when foreigners travel on our buses, they see the condition of that road and it is so embarrassing to have the street in that condition. And that is why it is important for our council and our government to ensure that we get this road paved. The one for Aranda Crescent is also a street that – imagine that each of the street is paved and the rest of the street is paved, but there is a certain area, for some reason or the other, that is not paved. Whenever people drive on that street, there is so much dust. So it is a very busy road and so that is the reason why we choose to pave those streets. As a matter of fact, we have plans to pave some more streets in Dangriga, but we are doing it at a time.”
