Swindler forges documents for $600,000 land

It has been only a week since we reported a forgery case. In that case, a man tried to cash a forged cheque of almost ten thousand dollars. In this latest case, a San Pedro resident almost allegedly got away with swindling a parcel of land worth over half of a million dollars. Twenty-three year old Arnulfo Morales reported that in November of 2008, he was approached by a man known as Alex Nunez. Nunez claimed to be interested in purchasing a parcel of land that Morales owned on Turneffe Island and he was willing to pay six hundred thousand dollars. Nunez allegedly requested the original land title to facilitate the process. In good faith, Morales handed over the documents but after that meeting he could not locate Nunez. Morales reported to police that when he visited the Lands Department he discovered that his signature was forged on transfer documents which gave land ownership to Nunez. Police have gotten copies of the documents and are seeking the said Nunez for questioning. But even before this article was aired, a Justice of the Peace from San Pedro called to say that the information provided by the police is inaccurate.
