Common-law moves on after dropping aggravated assault charges

A man and woman who have been in a common-law union for over sixteen years and brought charges of aggravated assault against each other ended up dropping the charges today in court and ending their relationship. The pair, sixty-four year old Miguel Alamina and thirty-eight year old Shantel Reneau pressed  charges against each other following a domestic dispute that ended up on the street across from where they live on the Raccoon Street Extension on Thursday.  While the pair admitted to having had a physical altercation with weapons drawn, they also admitted to filing the charges because of the malice they have held against each other over the years. After the Chief Magistrate, Sharon Fraser spoke to them about this anger and its effects on their family, the pair agreed to withdraw the charges and to separate on peaceful grounds for the sake of their two children.
