Overcrowding Concern at Wake of Superintendent Jemmott

Both the funeral and the wake for Superintendent Henry Jemmott were well attended by hundreds of people. While they all came out to pay their respects to the senior officer, there are many who were concerned about the non-compliance to quarantine regulations currently in place.  Pictures and videos of the wake also circulated on social media, showing many attendees not wearing masks and dancing in close proximity. Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood says that while he did not attend the wake, he attended the funeral. He commented on the concern about overcrowding.

“On weekends, we have a curfew time which is midnight and sometime around midnight I believe that’s when the family decided that they had to bring it to an end for the purpose of yes, they were getting the love and support of relatives but we also have to respect the curfew law. And they called that shot along with the Southern Regional Commander, who made a decision that it was time for them to end the celebration of the life of Superintendent Henry Jemmott. So say that overcrowding or so, I wouldn’t know because like I said, I didn’t attend the wake, but I was there for the funeral. And I wouldn’t want to comment about something that I personally did not see.”
