An Open Lane for Darrell Bradley
Is former Belize City mayor Darrell Bradley being anointed for leadership of the United Democratic Party? Opposition Leader Shyne Barrow says no, but a path has been cleared for Bradley to enter the National Assembly. This makes him eligible to run for party leader should the July eleventh recall convention be successful.
Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“I know what needs to be done, as you can see, I don’t want to be the leader of the party, that is why I appointed Darrell Bradley to give him an opportunity…”
Marleni Cuellar, Host, Open Your Eyes
“You are handpicking him as the next potential leader for the party.”
Shyne Barrow
“No, no, no… I am not handpicking him. I’d like to tell you that I’ve had discussions with the wider party, with the three hundred delegates, the leadership of the constituencies and he’s a name that just kept coming up. The Honorable Michael Peyrefitte is amply qualified as well. So I am not handpicking anyone, the Leader of the Opposition has the privilege of appointing his senators. But certainly, Darrell Bradley is an exciting name when it comes to the leadership conversation. Michael Peyrefitte is amply qualified and I’m certain that he would rise to the occasion should circumstances allow for a convention.”
