Imports Increasing, So Are Exports
On the external trade side, for May 2021, imports were inching back towards pre-COVID numbers. Exports are also up, signaling a rebound in the export economy.

“Belize’s imports were valued at seven hundred and sixty point two million dollars. Imports grew by a notable ten-point two percent, or seventy point three million dollars when compared to January of 2020, where imports totaled almost six hundred and ninety million dollars. One should note that spikes simply signal the return to normal import flows, as these figures are a comparison to the record low imports of last year, where imports for the months of April and May hit historic lows owing to the challenges brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic. Total domestic exports amounted to one hundred and seventy-two point two million dollars. This was a noteworthy increase of fifteen-point five percent, or twenty three point one million dollars over the exports for last year.”
