School dedications continue in Southern and Western Belize

The Ministry of Education inaugurated several pre-schools and primary schools in the last couple of weeks. Those inaugurations continued on Thursday in the south and west of the country. The Belize Education Sector Reform Program is an eighty-five million Belize dollar investment in thirty-five schools, eighteen of which are pre-schools. Minister of Education Francis Fonseca tells us more about the latest four schools to be covered by the program:

“We inaugurated four schools today. We started out in El Progresso in the Cayo District where we inaugurated the Monrad Metzgen pre-school there and then we moved on to Santa Cruz where we inaugurated the government pre-school and primary school. And then we went on to Camalote where we inaugurated the Myrtle Banner Pre-school and then we ended the day off today in Belmopan where we have inaugurated the Judy Diego Government pre-school. So, I think it is a fantastic day for education but it is particularly a good day for early childhood education which is so critically important to our education system because the investments that we make as a country, as a people, as a government in early childhood education will reap dividends for us at every other stage of the education system. So, I am very proud to be a part of this effort today. A lot of people have been involved in this project for many years and we are glad to see that those seeds that were planted are reaping fruit.”
