Met Service Reminds Public to Be Careful of Lightning Strikes
The rains today came with lightning strikes that even affected some of the Belize Met Service’s own telephone lines. Gordon advised people in the southern part of the country that as these rains continue over the weekend, they should take precautions.
Ronald Gordon, Chief Meteorologist
“We do advise residents to be on the alert for lightning and of course within these thunderstorms, you could have a heavy downpour of showers, very localized that can lead to flooding in flood-prone areas. So residents should also be on the alert for that. Whenever we have strong thunderstorms as we did today we encourage residents to stay indoors, protect yourself and try to avoid touching anything that conducts electricity and stay away from trees because they are always lightning attractor.”
